The following article from the New York Times writes about how the Netanyahu campaign has closely studied and imitated the Obama look and feel on their site in Hebrew and Russian. I am sure many others as well have followed the example of Obama and are trying to replicate his success.

“The colors, the fonts, the icons for donating and volunteering, the use of videos, and the social networking Facebook-type options — including Twitter, which hardly exists in Israel — all reflect a conscious effort by the Netanyahu campaign to learn from the Obama success.”

President Apostate?

// May 13th, 2008 // No Comments » // middle east

The New York Times recently published a great op-ed piece called “President Apostate?” in short the author Edward Luttwak comments on the fact that by Muslim standards Obama committed the crime of apostasy (being born to a Muslim father) which jurists of most Sunni and Shiite schools consider punishable my death for all adults who leave Islam with out being under duress.

The author points out that most Islamic states do not actually carry out executions for apostasy however “another provision of Muslim law is perhaps more relevant: it prohibits punishment for any Muslim who kills any apostate, and effectively prohibits interference with such a killing.”

One can only wonder what huge security operations will need to be set in place to allow him to make the many visits he envisions in his effort to open dialog with other states, especially that the US has had tense relationship with.

Please note that currently Iran is considering making apostasy punishable by death, the law is currently pending before Iran’s Parliament.
