What is your excuse?

// September 27th, 2008 // No Comments » // media/communication

The US Department of Energy has launched a great site for kids, called lose your excuse, to explain the importance of saving energy. The site is full of neat little activities to engage its users.

I explored the various features and was impressed by the diversity of activities available as well as how the site impart bits of information to educate us on how to save energy. What I found most noteworthy is that the site is not text heavy but encourages the user to explore the different features and learn by doing.

Pros:
- It does a great job in achieving its objective to educate kids on energy saving methods
- Execution and usability of site if fantastic.
- A wonderful example of how the web can be used to communicate and educate kids on important issues.

Cons:
- It takes ages for the site to initially load due to its extensive flash/animation features. (I must admit that in this case the wait is worth it, however it might have been wiser to split the waiting time to not loose the very short attention span of kids.)

The advergame is great fun and entertaining, don’t miss it.

Avergame: Can power slide park your Mini Racer?

Mini has launched a advergame called Power Slide Parking. The user needs to successfuly navigate the racer and park it in the right parking place.

The graphics and music are fantastic but in terms of a game its very basic and lacks stickiness. I played a few rounds and quickly became bored, pity cause it could have been a real winner.

Advergame: Coke Zero - Trust your Buds

// August 31st, 2008 // 1 Comment » // media/communication

Coke Zero launched a advergame called Trust your Buds. In this game you need to make the two main characters, two pink and slimy tongues, jump around collecting various items until the bottle is found.

The game looks easy but is more challenging than initially assumed. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. In terms of graphics and entertainment its very well executed.

On a side note, I find the tongues phenomenally gross, they are weird but in this respect are very catchy.
