Bahai’s Arrested - Troubling News from Iran
// May 15th, 2008 // bahai
Six Baha’is who are members of the of the Friends in Iran (the informal national group that coordinates Bahá’í activities in Iran in the absence of the long banned formal Bahá’í administration) were arrested yesterday (May 14th) and taken to the notorious Evin Prison in Tehran.
Please note that this administrative committee only has 7 members and that the 7th member has been held in custody since March 5 2008! Just in case you were wondering were #7 was.

This news is greatly troubling as it reminds us of the early days after the Iranian Revolution in the early 80’s where two National Spiritual Assemblies (National Administrative Councils, which have been disbanded since then) were arrested and abducted. The first one “mysteriously” disappeared and to this day it is not clear what happened to them, maybe they too “accidentally” were moved to the cemetery.
To me this just shows that Iran is taking much bolder steps and is feeling once again very comfortable with disregarding human rights in eyes of the world. Makes you wonder what else lies ahead.

Friends of Iran: 7 members, 6 of which have been arrested and are currently being “housed” in Evin prison
